Celeste Groves Honored for Service to Children's Theatre

May 2007: Celeste Groves has been named as one of the recipients of the 2007 James B. Hunter III Community Hero Awards.

She is being honored for more than two decades of service to Encore Stage and Studio (The Children's Theatre). She began volunteering with the program when her son participated in productions, and over the years has served in a variety of positions. Since 1986 she has served as executive producer.

"Mrs. Groves deserves credit for nurturing a unique resource that has provided high-quality educational and performance opportunities for two generations of Arlington children," said Pat Kobor, who made the nomination. "A true community hero like Celeste Groves is a giver -- a person who deals with the 'little things' so that the community can achieve big things."

The Arlington County Volunteer Office celebrates volunteerism by honoring the special volunteers recognized in the Community Hero Awards. Each year, the Arlington Sun Gazette, Arlington United Way E*Trade Bank, and Ballston Commons Mall honor "Arlington's Heroes:" People who made -- and continue to make -- exceptional contributions to our local community.

This year five individuals, one group, and a business have been named recipients. The awards will be presented on Saturday, May 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Ballston Common Mall. The community is invited.

More information on the awards and this year's recipients can be found in the Sun Gazette newspaper.
