Encore Stage & Studio was incorporated as The Children's Theatre
(TCT) in the state of Virginia in 1967. We are a non-profit, 501
( c) 3 organization with a mission to introduce young people to
all aspects of theatre arts. We do this through two primary venues:
our performances, which are for children and by children, and our
educational programs which are held year-round.
We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
We currently have a staff that includes an Artistic Director, and
Education Director, an Assistant Education Director, an Educational
Registrar, as well as administrative/bookkeeping support. We also
hire other qualified professionals including directors, producers,
designers, and instructors to administer our programs and performances.
Much of our work is done by volunteers-- children, parents, and
other community members. We receive support from local businesses
and community organizations. Encore Stage & Studio and The Children's
Theatre are supported in part by the National Endowment for the
Arts, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and Arlington County
through the Arlington Commission for the Arts and the Cultural Affairs
Division of Parks, Recreation and Community Resources.
Encore Stage & Studio produces four shows during
the school year, geared for children, and performed by children
ages 9-18, with technical assistance by children ages 12-18. We
also have a summer theatre company, ACT III that uses the skills
of community theatre professional, and non-professional young adults
(ages 15+), to present our fifth production. This summer show is
often geared more towards adults and young adults (ages 15+). Currently
all productions are at Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre in Arlington.
Free and reduced price tickets are provided to many local organizations
and individuals.
We present classes during the school year at area
elementary and middle schools and run three separate summer educational
programs for children ages 4-9, 10-14 and 15+. Scholarships are
available for all classes.
Encore Stage & Studio strives to reflect the cultural
diversity of the community in which we live, and does not discriminate
against anyone on the basis of race, religion, sex, or national
origin. We make every effort to provide ample, varied, and enriched
theatre experience to all segments of the community. We are an equal
opportunity employer and feel honored to be able to give children
and the community an enriching theatre experience.
