1967 was a great year for kids: Congress created the Public Broadcasting System; Boris Karloff won a Grammy for his recording of Dr. Seuss's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," and here in Arlington, The Children's Theatre was incorporated.

Back then, a group of local parents took a risk, taking an informal program of children's performances to a new level. The metropolitan Washington community has reinforced the decision of that small group of volunteers by supporting this organization and bringing record audiences to Children's Theatre plays. Over the past 40 years The Children's Theatre has produced 147 plays and countless classes. Encore Stage and Studio is now the parent organization housing a full spectrum of drama education and performance activities for kids.

High quality arts programs for kids are more important than ever in our era of high-stakes academic testing. Kids' creativity needs to be nurtured and encouraged, in schools and community programs. If you agree, we ask you to pitch in today.

The Children's Theatre needs your help as it embarks on the next 40 years of great theatre, for and by kids. It costs over $25,000 to produce each of the four regular-season plays we produce. We are determined to keep ticket prices affordable and to forego fees for kids to audition and perform in our plays. To keep The Children's Theatre accessible to everyone, we ask you to contribute to our 40th Anniversary Fund.

Please choose from two levels of support: a $40 gift, or a pledge of $40 x4, or $40 every three months during our anniversary year. We urge you to give generously. Your contribution to this unique nonprofit organization is tax-deductible.
