Little Theatre for Big Imaginations!
It's Elementary is a summer drama workshop for children 4 to 9 years old held at Swanson Middle School, 5800 North Washington Boulevard, Arlington, VA. It's a dynamic summer program that combines dramatic play, creative movement, story telling, and scene study to help stimulate the imaginations of preschool and elementary students.
It's Elementary will be held in three sessions: June 28 - July 9, 2010 (no class July 5); July 12 - July 23, 2010; and July 26 - August 6, 2010. The morning sessions are 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Afternoon sessions are 1:15 - 5:15 p.m.
In only two weeks, It's Elementary students learn improvisation, dramatic play, stories and songs that are brought to life, dance, and theatre crafts. Students ages 6 and up will even try their hands at scripted drama. Each session features a talent show and final performance.
Our staff of professional theatre educators teaches the basic of characterization and scene-playing in 30-60 minute classes for an exciting 4-hour day. A theme for each session provides consistency in material chosen for dramatic exploration.
Parents must provide a snack. If parents choose to
have their child or children stay during the optional supervised
lunch (12:30-1:15), parents must also send lunch. Due to the fact
that we teach two sessions each day, there is no extended day available.
If parents need an all-day program, the child may enroll for both
morning and afternoon sessions. Teachers are careful not to teach
the same lesson plan in mornings and afternoons.
Late Pickup: Parents will be assessed a $5.00 charge if a child is picked up 15 minutes after class ends and an additional $1.00 per minute thereafter. Please pickup on time.
This program is for children ages 4 to 9 years old. Children are divided into age groups. We do not recommend this program for 4-year olds who have not yet attended pre-school. All children MUST be toilet trained to participate in It's Elementary.
