Join us for an Exploration of
100 Years of the American Theatre!
Stage Door is a three-week experience that will inspire and enrich your child for a lifetime! This exciting opportunity is for young artists grades 5-9.
Sorry, Stage Door is now full.
This year's session will be held July 12 - 30, 2010, 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Extended morning and afternoon hours are available.) All classes, rehearsals, and performances will be held at Williamsburg Middle School, 3600 N. Harrison St., Arlington, Virginia 22207.
Stage Door is directed by a staff of professional, Washington-area actors and theatre educators. Our classes are designed to nurture individual creativity while teaching the discipline required to master the performing arts. Teens and pre-teens will learn the processes involved in creating, rehearsing, and performing an ensemble theatre piece. Stage Door's teachers will guide students as they hone their current acting skills and develop new ones.
Actors and guest artists will perform and teach Stage Door students skills such as musical theatre, creating characters from several popular plays throughout the years, stage combat, scene study, directing for the stage, and various dance styles. Encore Stage & Studio believes that by studying with professional performers, students will develop a better understanding of and respect for the performing arts.
Stage Door culminates in a student showcase performance. Performance opportunities may include both scripted scenes from plays and/or musical numbers from popular musical theatre from the past and/or present.
Stage Door may require an audition to place student actors into groups. Information on placement auditions will be sent to students at a later date, after registration is complete.
Late Pickup: Parents will be assessed a $5.00 charge if a child is picked up 15 minutes after class ends and an additional $1.00 per minute thereafter. Please pickup on time.
Extended hours are available for an additional fee. For details, see the Application Form available here.
"Artist in Training" Internships for Teens 15 and Up: Stage Door is also accepting applications for our volunteer summer internship program! "Artist in Training" Interns will assist professional actor/educators in training students enrolled in Stage Door. These interns will also assist with stage management during the final performance. These developing young artists will participate in some of the training provided by Stage Door. These are volunteer (unpaid) positions. For more information or to request an application, contact Encore Stage & Studio at (703) 548-1154 (ext. 3).
