Private Acting and Voice Lessons for Kids in Arlington, VA

One-on-one instruction from working theatre and music professionals — built around your child's goals and your family's schedule.

Encore's teaching artists are the same working professionals who lead our productions, run our classes, and have been part of this organization's 60-year history of theatre education in Northern Virginia. When your child works with an Encore teaching artist, they are learning from someone who is actively practicing the craft they are teaching.

Private lessons are available in acting and voice. Each is offered as one-on-one instruction coordinated directly between your family and the teaching artist — flexible scheduling, focused attention, and instruction that moves at your child's pace.

Private Acting Lessons

Acting instruction for young people who want to go deeper than a group class allows. Work covers scene study, character development, audition preparation, monologue coaching, and the fundamentals of stage presence. Well-suited for students preparing for school productions, Encore auditions, or simply exploring the craft with more focus and room to grow.

Private Voice Lessons

Vocal instruction for children and teens building technique, range, and confidence. Lessons address breath support, pitch, tone, and performance — taught by teaching artists who bring professional performance experience into every session. Appropriate for beginners building a foundation and more advanced students refining for auditions or production work.

How the Private Lesson Process Works

Encore's private lesson model is built to reduce friction and get your child matched with the right teaching artist as quickly as possible. Here is how it works.

01

Send Your Private Lesson Inquiry

Email our Registrar and tell us which discipline you are interested in, your child's age and experience level, and any scheduling preferences or constraints your family has.

02

We Match You With a Teaching Artist

Encore coordinates the match based on your child's age, discipline, experience level, and scheduling needs. We connect you with a teaching artist whose background and availability align with your family.

03

Schedule Directly With Your Teaching Artist

Once matched, scheduling is handled directly between your family and the teaching artist. This is where the flexibility lives — lessons are not locked into a single weekly time slot dictated by a studio calendar. You work it out together.

04

Lessons Begin

Your child works one-on-one with their teaching artist in an Encore facility. Sessions are focused, personal, and structured around your child's specific goals and current level.

Classes, Private Lessons, or Both?

Many Encore students do both, and there is good reason for it. Group classes build ensemble instincts, collaborative skills, and the ability to take direction in a room full of other performers — skills that only develop in a group setting. Private lessons develop the focused, personalized technique that is harder to build when instruction is shared across a class.

Neither path is a prerequisite for the other. Students new to theatre can start with private lessons. Students who have been in classes for years sometimes add private lessons when they are preparing for an audition or want to push further in a specific area. If you are not sure which fits your child right now, reach out and we will help you think it through.
