Nicole Kovar is the passionate founder of  Piano & More,  a Northern Virginia-based music education company that brings private piano, guitar, voice, and drum lessons straight to families’ homes. With a background in early childhood education and a love for creative teaching, Nicole has built a program that makes learning music feel like play-engaging kids through games, storytelling, and ear training. She believes every child deserves access to the joy and confidence that comes from making music, which is why she launched a nonprofit organization with an in-home lesson program and a community outreach program that provides free lessons and instruments to low-income students. Piano & More serves families in Arlington, Falls Church, and McLean, creating happy musicians one home at a time. There’s nothing quite like the proud smile of a child who just realized they’ve leveled up. When a student finishes playing a thrilling piano piece at a recital, nailing a tough line in rehearsal, or figuring out how to sing and play an instrument simultaneously, there’s a sense of accomplishment that isn’t easily forgotten. These achievements take weeks to develop so that feeling of “I worked hard and it paid off” is rightfully earned. This is how confidence from the inside out is built. This is what reminds kids they’re so much more capable of what they know. And honestly? In a world that moves fast and often measures success by clicks or grades, the arts give kids something more lasting. It gives real progress they can see and feel.

Here at  Piano & More, we’ve worked with hundreds of children across Arlington, Mclean, and Falls Church, Virginia who are discovering music as their superpower. Playing an instrument or performing on stage has become a healthy emotional outlet, a confidence boost, and a true source of joy. I’m excited to share this message with families from Encore Stage because theatre kids already  get it.  They know what it feels like to light up an audience. Now, imagine giving them the tools to create that magic with their own two hands through an instrument right at home.

Music, theatre, and dance aren’t just fun extracurriculars. They’re stabilizing lifelines. In today’s fast-paced, pressure-filled world, kids need healthy outlets to process emotions, reduce stress, and build resilience. The arts give them exactly that. When a child sings out after a tough day or composes a melody on the guitar that reflects their feelings, they’re not just being creative, they’re growing stronger on the inside. The arts help kids  feel seen, safe, and soothed.

And at the same time, we’re helping them build something bigger: their future. Creativity is a  must.  Whether they become actors or accountants, the ability to problem-solve, adapt, and think outside the box will set them apart. Every music lesson, every rehearsal, every art project is training them to be thoughtful, courageous, and imaginative leaders.
