Meet the Student Directors – Kate D.

Encore Stage Team • April 25, 2025

Our next student director is Kate D! Kate has worked with Encore since Treasure Island, way back in the fall of 2022. She is directing The Still Alarm , and is so excited to work with her fellow students to bring it to audiences at the end of this month.

Encore: Why did you choose to be a director?

I wanted to become a director because I wanted to make my imagination into creating something out of nothing and make connections with wonderful people along the way.

Encore: Why did you choose the play you’re directing?

I chose the play I did because honestly, it made me giggle.

Encore: What has been your favorite part of the process so far?

Getting to know the cast has been so much fun, and learning about them and their stories has been super meaningful.

Encore: Who is a director that inspires you, and why?

A Director that inspires me is Ms. Stephane who directed Swiss Family Robinson. She really valued the cast being close knit and good friends with each other, and she taught me that that makes a good cast.

Encore: What are your favorite parts of theatre?

Definitely acting because I love being on stage.

Encore: What are you most excited for audiences to see at Student Directed One Act Plays?

A group of talented and creative people who have had so much fun making a show come to life and make meaningful connections with their cast mates.

Encore: This is our first season doing student directed one act plays, what advice would you give to directors in future seasons?

Have fun, this is a special experience that won’t come many times in your life. Make special connections with your cast and fellow directors again! This is a unique opportunity and it’s really not deep, just try your best and have genuine fun. If you are having fun your cast will, too.

We are all looking forward to seeing Kate’s work up on stage on April 25 and 26. Grab your tickets now, seating is limited!
